This affordable housing program is for individuals and families with moderate incomes allowing below market rents for those who qualify. The program is not a subsidized housing program as each resident is responsible for their full amount of rent each month. Rental amounts are based on the pre-set income limits in the geographic area and not based on your individual household income. To be income eligible, your total household 'gross' income must be less than the pre-set income limit for the area.

Hana Gardens provides senior housing while honoring the areas Japanese heritage. The community has two four-story buildings and a single-story stone-faced former florist shop that was preserved and transformed into a resident community room. A second community room opens onto an outdoor courtyard garden with raised planters, a picnic area and benches. Other features include a fitness room, a computer lab, laundry facilities and bike storage. Half of the homes are fully accessible to people with disabilities. The El Cerrito Senior Center is conveniently located on the ground levelwith transit, and safe bicycle and pedestrian paths nearby.
