Duffy Street SRO Homeless Shelter
The Duffy Street SRO, Inc., is a for profit housing development built in 1993 for homeless men. The project is a partnership between the Affordable Housing Group and EOA. EOA is the managing partner and provides social services to residents of the facility. The facility, the first of its kind in the south, is a single room occupancy (SRO) facility that provides permanent housing for 40 men with supportive services. In addition, the facility has on site property management, laundry services, and common areas for residents to have various activities. Each room is equipped with a bed, stove, refrigerator, closet, and outlets for additional appliances and electronics. The facility also has central heat and air. Rent is subsidized based on the resident's income. The subsidy is provided by the Housing Authority of Savannah. The property manager is Lewis Johnson.
Tom D. Austin House
The Tom D. Austin House program is a fully furnished transitional apartment complex with on-site support services for homeless families. The Austin House has twelve apartment units with a capacity of fifty-eight beds. The on-site support services consist of comprehensive case management, career development, day care services for infants and toddlers, transportation, after-school tutoring, and weekly life skills workshops. The primary goal of the Austin House is toBreak the Homeless Cycle. Participants may stay at the Austin House up to two years as they become independent, self-sufficient, and obtain permanent housing.
