Can I Have Roommates In A Section 8 Home
Section 8 does allow you to have roommates while receiving Section 8 benefits, but only those approved by the Public Housing Authority (PHA). Check out who can live with you in a Section 8 home.
1. Approved Family Members
You can live with anyone that's described as part of your family by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). According to HUD, a family is simply one or more individuals who live together. Family members do not need to be related by blood, marriage or in any other legal capacity.
2. Notified Guests
You can have a guest after notifying your landlord. Your visitor can stay for a maximum of 14 days. However, if they want to stay longer, you must contact your PHA and follow certain guidelines.
3. Your Partner/Fiancé
If you plan on moving in with your partner/fiancé, you two could apply for the Section 8 voucher together, or you could use the "shared housing" option.
