Eligibility
The Housing Authority of Springfield Florida Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program waiting list is currently closed. It was last open on January 22, 2015.
Applications were accepted in two phases. This was not an online application. Paper applications had to be picked up in person after providing personal ID and proof of eligibility. Applications were picked up and dropped off at the housing authority offices at 3806 E. 8th Street, Panama City, Florida.
In the first phase, elderly and disabled applicants could apply from January 13, 2015 through January 15, 2015. Applications were to be submitted in person at the Springfield Housing Authority office from 8:30AM to noon and 1:30PM to 3:30PM each of the three business days the waiting list was opened.
In the second phase of the waiting list opening, anyone in the general public who did not meet the elderly or disabled preference was able to apply from January 20, 2015 to January 22, 2015. Applications were to be submitted in person at the Springfield Housing Authority office from 8:30AM to noon and 1:30PM to 3:30PM each of the three business days the waiting list was opened.
It seems that applications were only being handed out directly to potential applicants or parties assisting those persons (like social workers). In the public notice the Springfield Housing Authority said:
"Social service workers may pick up applications for clients by producing a proper file (limit two, per worker). Other interested parties may pick up an application for someone other than themselves by providing a notarized statement showing, name, address, SS#, age verification or disability letter and contact phone number of affected person (limit one). Bring identification showing age or disability letter."
It seems from the language in the public notice that the housing authority would only hand out applications to elderly or disabled persons from January 13-15, 2015 if those parties or those assisting them can provide proof of age or disability. We would suggest that you be sure to bring an ID with your birth date (drivers license, birth certificate, etc.) and a letter from a government body certifying to your disability if you have one.
In addition, in the public notice, the Springfield Housing Authority provided specific language prohibiting anyone from requesting an application before the designated hours and specifically saying "No camping out" in the public notice.
The public notice published by the Springfield Housing Authority notifying the public of the opening can found here.
