The Tacoma Housing Authority (THA) Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list opened on November 14, 2024 at 9AM and will remain open continuously.

You may only apply online at the online application.

Note: Tacoma Housing has completely overhauled its application and waiting list process. All applications are online and most importantly, the waiting list will stay open continuously.

IMPORTANT: You absolutely MUST check in to the applicant portal EVERY MONTH to express continued interest to keep your spot on the waiting list.

The new system is different than any other we have seen before. It is quite innovative in that it is the first true "living" waiting list we have ever seen. Since anyone can apply at any time and the housing authority is pulling names from the waiting list directly, an applicant could possibly apply today and be called tomorrow for a voucher. Also, because all applicants have to proactively optin every month to keep their spot on the list, it ensures the list isn't populated with people who have moved or no longer need a voucher. This allows the housing authority to issue vouchers more efficiently.We congratulate Tacoma Housing Authority on designing the most fair and efficient housing waiting list process in the U. S.
